Native Wildflower Project
A trial plot of wildflowers has been introduced into part of one of the fields using native flower seed. The flowers are mainly perennials including Common Birds-foot Trefoil, Wild Carrot, Meadow Cranesbill, Lady's Bedstraw, Oxeye Daisy and Red Clover. Yellow Rattle seed has been added to reduce the vigour of the course grasses which would otherwise become dominant. The site already contained Greater Birds-foot Trefoil, Common Sorrel, Sheep Sorrel and Plantains. This area of wildflower rich grassland is attracting many species of insects including bees, the Common Blue butterfly and the Five-Spot Burnet moth. Ask Rowena for photo of flowers.
